Mr. Stone began his career as a teacher in 1934 at the Cline School here in Cumberland County, eventually serving as principal for Crossville Elementary. Following military service in World War 2, Mr. Stone began working for Trade-A-Plane, and married the founder’s daughter, Joanne Harrison Stone. He would grow the company to what is now Tap Publishing, retiring as Publisher Emeritus in 1989. In addition to Tap Publishing, Mr. Stone was a charter board member for Crossville Rubber Company, Cumberland County Bank, was president of the Crossville Medical Group, charter board member of Upper Cumberland Savings and Loan and served as president of Plateau Properties. Business aside, Mr. Stone was a humanitarian. Together with his late wife, they left future generations with the gift of education. The Stones provided land for Roane State Community College’s Cumberland County Education Center, Stone Elementary School and Stone Memorial High School, not to mention numerous gifts to the Cumberland County Playhouse
