HIGH SPEED CHASE THIS MORNING ENDS WITH SUSPECTS GOING TO JAIL

What started out as a high-speed pursuit ended up with three suspects landing in the Cumberland County Jail this morning.  According to Sheriff Casey Cox and other sources, THP began pursuing a Dodge Charger on I-40 around 5am.  The Charger, hitting more than 100 mph at times, got off the interstate at 127 North, headed into Crossville, spun around at Dairy Queen and headed back out-of-town toward the interstate. The pursuit, involving police, deputies and State patrol,  continued into Roane County.  Roane County deputies were notified and had spike strips ready at mile marker 347 and 353. The car struck the spike strips at mile marker 347. Police say three people ran out of the vehicle and were apprehended in Harriman.  During the high speed chase, authorities say the people in the car started throwing objects from the car. The trooper believes two of the items were weapons of some sort.

Sheriff Cox tells CNF no one was injured and the suspects, who are from North Carolina, are now booked into the Cumberland County Justice Center.  No details on why the suspects ran in the first place or what charges they face.
