GONDOLA RESTAURANT FOUNDER BILL DRAINAS HAS PASSED

The founder of one of the oldest family owned restaurant establishments in Crossville has died.  Bill Drainas and his wife Memeka opened Gondola Pizza and Steak House in the Woodmere Mall in 1973.

Bill moved from Greece to Canada in his younger years. It was there that he met his future wife, Demetra, who had also moved from Greece to Canada. They married in Canada and moved to the United States where they lived in various states before deciding to move to Crossville. Once they visited Crossville in late 1973, they knew that this was the place they would call home. He and his wife, Demetra opened Gondola Pizza House. Bill had a tremendous love for the people and the community. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and customers who have come to love him and the family throughout the years.  Their son John took over the operation several years ago.

Services for 74-year-old Bill Drainas will be held on Monday, October 4th at 3:00 PM at Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Crossville City Cemetery. Survivors include Spouse Demetra Drainas, Sons John Drainas and Sam Drainas, and Brother Kostoas Drainas. Hood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
