Fred’s is closing another 129 of its discount stores, including the stores in Monterey, Livingston and Pikeville in our area in Tennessee.

With the latest closures, the chain said Friday that it would have about 80 stores left open..

This round of closures includes 35 stores in Mississippi, 19 stores in Tennessee, 16 in Arkansas, 14 in Georgia, 13 in Arkansas and 12 in Louisiana. The company’s remaining pharmacies will stay open.
