DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME STARTS TONIGHT – COULD CAUSE HEART ATTACKS, DIABETES AND MORE???

We found this story interesting and little bizarre.  Who knew springing forward in time could have serious health consequences?

Tonight, millions of Americans will lose an hour of sleep when the clocks spring forward. But can the effects extended far beyond the hour you lose in bed?

CBS Philadelphia citied studies that show disrupting sleep patterns, even just an hour, can increase the risk for heart trouble.

One study said an irregular sleep pattern, even just one hour, can lead to higher risks for heart disease, weight gain, high blood pressure and diabetes and even possible heart attacks.

An expert with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute said daylight savings time can cause driver fatigue and hazardous road conditions as well.

The same expert offered a few tips to avoid the effects of daylight saving time:

– Avoid driving during rush hour and from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
– Get a full night’s sleep

– Pay attention to signs of drowsy driving
– Be aware of other factors impacting drowsy driving

The Tennessee legislature is currently considering a bill that would establish daylight saving time as the standard time in Tennessee.  But that bill is still in sub-committee and doesn’t have much of a chance passing.  It’s been proposed several times over the past few years in the Tennessee Legislature.
