CUMBERLAND COUNTY EDUCATOR FOUND DEAD

A former Cumberland County educational leader has died.  Dana Winningham, former teacher, principal and Special Education Director with the Cumberland County School System, was discovered dead in a field located on his farm in Linary off Russell Ridge Rd. late Tuesday night. Authorities and emergency personnel were called to the area shortly before 11:30 PM for the initial report of a dead cow lying in the roadway. According to reports, Winningham, who was 62, was found lying in the field next to his RTV. The cause of death has not been determined yet. With more than three decades of experience in education, Mr. Winningham spent 27 years in Cumberland County schools and five years in two other counties. He served as principal of Homestead Elementary School for 10 years and two years at Martin Elementary as assistant principal. Mr. Winningham left the Cumberland County School system in 2007 to take a position at TTU. (105.7 News/CNF)
