CROSSVILLE TRAFFIC LIGHTS GO TO ‘FLASHING’ TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT – HERE ARE THE RULES

Effective tonight at midnight,  (November 4, 2018,) you will notice certain traffic signals within the City limits placed on “flash” during designated hours to ease the flow of traffic during low traffic hours. Operation hours of lights on flash will be from Midnight to 5:00 AM. Traffic signals will resume normal operation after 5:00 AM. Motorists should follow the rules of the road.  City Council passed this last month but said they needed time to “publicize” the rules before actually making the change.  Some people speculate there will be drivers who don’t know what to do when they drive up to a flashing yellow or red light. So as a public service, here are the rules to follow:

1. Flashing red (Stop signal). When a red lens is illuminated with intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles shall STOP before entering the nearest cross walk at an intersection or at a limit line when marked, or if none, then before entering the intersection, and the right to proceed shall be subject to the rules applicable after making a stop at a stop sign.

2. Flashing yellow (Caution signal). When a yellow lens is illuminated with intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles may proceed through the intersection or past the signal ONLY WITH CAUTION.
