CROSSVILLE MAN ATTACKS PREGNANT WOMAN, SAYS HIS FAMILY WILL ‘CUT THAT BABY OUT OF HER’

An open line 911 call was made around 2am Saturday morning with just the sound of a woman screaming.  Police were dispatched to Elmo Drive where they were met with a man leaving the house.  Police asked the man, identified as 46-year-old Virgil Belin, what was going on there.  Belin admitted he had attacked one of two women inside the residence.

The woman who was allegedly assaulted is 37 weeks pregnant and stated she had asked Belin to get quiet because her young son was in the room. That’s when things got worse.  The report stated Belin then went into the kitchen and got a knife, threatening to kill the two women in the residence.  At one point while police were there, Belin stated they (the women) would not survive after this.  Berlin was taken into custody and the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.  While being booked at the jail on two counts of aggravated domestic assault, Belin made the statement “that his family would cut that baby out of her after this”. The mental health crisis center was contacted and Berlin was transported to Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in Chattanooga for evaluation.   The victim was contacted by police the next day and stated she did not think the unborn child had been injured by the assault.
