CROSSVILLE: BIGGEST RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY IN RECENT HISTORY – $20,000

A traffic accident this morning took the life of a Cumberland County businessman.  Woody Mercer, driving a Toyota pickup, apparently hydroplaned on 127 South approaching Byrds Creek Bridge and crashed head on into a flat bed rock truck, spinning Mercer’s vehicle around and hitting the bridge guard rail killing him.  The flat bed truck, being driven by David Cooper, belonged to Sylvera Stone Company of Crossville.  Mercer himself was the owner of Cumberland Mountain Stone company in Crossville.
