A Sparta man faces charges after authorities found nitrous oxide tanks and more than a pound of marijuana inside his vehicle.

State troopers arrested Tyler Dwain Rice after he crashed his automobile and fled the scene Sunday.

An arrest warrant said state troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Highway 111. Witnesses stated that Rice fled the scene when they called police to report the crash.

A search of the vehicle revealed a cardboard box containing two pounds of a green leafy substance, digital scales, and a grinder. Troopers also discovered a 23 pound nitrous oxide tank in the trunk and a 13 pound tank in the passenger’s side floorboard.

In addition, the warrant said authorities found a weed eater reported stolen from the Sparta Walmart.

Charges against Rice include possession of a controlled substance, inhaling, selling, giving or possessing gases, and theft. He left the Putnam County Jail after posting bond.
