COVID DEATH RATE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY AT ALARMING ALL TIME HIGH
Cumberland County has been recording a record number of COVID cases in the past two months. The spike in COVID cases isn’t new – there have been spikes before.
What’s alarming is the recent surge in deaths from COVID. For the past year and a half, the death rate has been slow to rise with only a few deaths at a time reported during the period but now those numbers have increased at a much greater rate. From September 1st until September 23rd there have been 34 people die in Cumberland County from COVID-19 related illnesses. There are no statistics from CMC to indicate whether or not the deaths were unvaccinated or vaccinated patients – but their dashboard does show a vast majority of COVID-19 patients hospitalized are not vaccinated with one-hundred percent of ICU patients unvaccinated. All medical agencies are pushing very hard for citizens to get vaccinated but there is a certain number in the population who refuse the call citing various personal opinions against the vaccine. One notable difference in this round of large spikes in COVID-19 cases is there are no shut-downs or reductions in everyday activity as compared to last year and earlier this year. For example, local theaters are not limiting the number of patrons and restaurants are operating at full capacity.

Until death statistics are reported in subcategories, then it’s difficult to determine how severe COVID really is to a healthy person who contracts the disease. For example, it’s important to know if the people who are dying have comorbidities. It’s also important to know if they had been vaccinated. Did they die at home or in a care facility? Most deaths are not occurring in otherwise healthy individuals. Many are overweight, have diabetes, or some other illness that is compromising their immune system. Those agencies reporting deaths are doing the public a disservice by simply publishing a number.

Just because they died at CMC does not mean they count as a Cumberland County death. The county the person lived in will count that death.

Also. They are leaving out the statistics on those that have previously had the virus. I have asked several friends that work at area hospitals are telling me that very few if any that have previously had the virus are in the hospital, that is not saying that they are not getting reinfected but they are not being serious enough to be in the hospital. These are facts that no one reports on!

First off whether or not the individuals dieing are from our county we as individuals should not only be thinking about ourselves but those that we affect on a daily basis. Not only do we come across the vaccinated but also the unvaccinated. Yes we can all carry the virus whether we’ve had the shot or not and get sick … But… Knowing that I have piece of mind that I won’t have to be hospitalized or die from it makes all the difference in the world. I think I’ve heard every concern and argument on the subject that is possible and yes each to their own decisions. To those that decide NOT to receive the shot I leave this thought …. The hospitals are over capicity at present meaning that there are no beds available. People have died in the back of ambulances trying to find a bed . The decision is yours but I hope your conscience is able to handle knowing that it didn’t have to be so bad … Once you are in the hospital it’s too late for the vaccine. Good luck and GOD bless
