The Crossville City Council held their June meeting Tuesday evening. There were only three main business items on the agenda, the chief being the discussion of a potential new retail development for Crossville. A business with plans to demolish the old Ryan’s property and move onto the spot had requested the council waive water and sewer fees. Councilman JH Graham made a motion for discussion purposes. Councilman Scott Shanks asked the council if the name of the buyer could be released, to which Mayor James Mayberry and Graham replied “no” (although CNF has reason to believe it may be Aldi Grocery chain that is making the request).

Shanks said that he could not support the request and that it would be unfair to other businesses to not know who their competition was. Councilmen Art Gernt and Rob Harrison agreed with Shanks. Graham withdrew the motion and the request was not granted. City Manager Greg Wood did say that the City had waived fees for only one non-industrial business- Rural King.
