CITIZENS UPSET OVER MEDIA RELEASE OF ‘CROSSVILLE MOST DANGEROUS CITY’ REPORT

crossville-city-sealA report released by media in East Tennessee that lists Crossville as the “Most Dangerous City” to live in Tennessee has some local citizens on the defensive.  The report, compiled by ADT, a commercial security company, claims to list the cities with the most crime per capita.  Crossville is at the top of the list.  But some are yelling foul saying the list is simply designed to sell security systems and does not take all factors into account. Others are saying the media played right into the hands of ADT who wanted the media to publish the report in order to make sales of home security systems.  ADT says they compiled the list from the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report which used both violent and property crime statistics to compile the list. Only those cities with violent crime rates over 7 percent were included. With a population of 11,000, they say there are 14.8 violent crimes per 1000 residents in Crossville. For property crimes, 101.7 crimes per 1000 residents, with total reported crimes at 116.6 per 1000 residents.  You can see the article from ADT by clicking here.
