$89,000 FOR DINNER IN KNOXVILLE? AND THAT’S WITH NO DESSERT

GTY_stock_cash_pile_money_dollar_bills-thg-130726_16x9_992Dozens of people in the Knoxville area were charged anywhere between $8,000 to $99,000 for a dinner at a local restaurant.
22 year old James Morgan was none too happy seeing an outrageous charge on his bank statement from the Chop House on Chapman Highway. Morgan and his two friends went to the restaurant a few weeks ago. He ordered chicken parmesan and two beers, which cost him a little more than $20.

On Friday, he noticed a few zeros were added to the original amount. This left him with a $27,000 charge.

“I was just kind of in shock of the whole thing. I’ve never been in that situation or anything like that happening to me before,” said Morgan.

He isn’t the only one dealing with this problem. A woman said she was charged $80,000 from the restaurant.

The CFO of the Chop House’s parent company, Nicki Dawson, said the overcharge was caused by a glitch from the debit and credit card processor. The charges didn’t show up until last Friday. That’s when customers started telling the restaurant about the problem.

Dawson said it appears this only impacted people who went to the Chop House on Oct. 21. The restaurant is trying to make it right by getting the charges reversed.

As a result of the incident, the restaurant is also helping pay for overdraft fees. If you were impacted by the computer glitch at the Chop House on Chapman Highway, contact Melissa Jones with Connor Concepts at (865) 777-2677 extension 10.  (WATE)
