The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says its Safe Holiday Task Force has now arrested 300 people and recovered around $57,000 in stolen property.

The task force started on November 24 with a goal of making shopping in Knox County safer.

Officials say most of those arrested were shoplifters, but one was a federal fugitive.

Task force officers are out in both marked and unmarked cars and in plain clothes or uniforms. They are trying to prevent purse snatchings, store thefts, car burglaries, car thefts, forgery, fraud and other holiday-related criminal activity.
