An inmate got loose from the Nashville Riverbend Maximum Security Institution work detail this afternoon, stole a black Chevy pick-up and headed east. Adam Williams left his assigned community service crew at the James K. Polk Building in Nashville, TN.  Williams had been assigned to a crew that was loading items from the building into a moving truck. Williams was then seen getting into a pickup truck that had been left running in the same area as the moving van. Supervising officers immediately implemented appropriate procedures and local authorities were notified.  Riverbend put out an all points bulletin to every law enforcement agency east of Nashville with the description of the escapee’s vehicle.  Williams was spotted by a Cumberland County Deputy on I-40 about mile marker 315 – once the escapee saw he had been identified by the deputy…the race was on.  Williams punched the Chevy hitting speeds of more than 120 MPH heading east on I-40.  Cumberland County Sheriff deputies, the Sheriff, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Police Chief and Crossville City Police officers filed in behind the suspect…12 cruisers in all.  Williams jumped the ditch at Genesis Road exit…crossed over the median and headed west…at full throttle – with all 12 cruisers in pursuit.  Just as Williams got about even with Deer Creek he drove off the interstate, through the grass and upon Crabtree Road…almost losing control of the Chevy.  He came to a stop at a residence in Deer Creek and took off running on foot.  Officers took him down quickly.  Williams, in his late 30’s, was taken to Cumberland County Justice Center.   Sheriff Casey Cox told CNF News that the pursuit went very smoothly with all the law enforcement officers working in conjunction with one another.  There were no injuries nor property damage resulting from the chase.  Williams was being housed at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution and is serving 5 years for Burglary and Theft of Property from Knox County.  He was set to expire his sentence in February 2022.
